ABC Matching Game Clothes Line

What do you do with an interested preschooler while you are trying to give her older siblings their homeschool lessons?

This is the question I’ve been wondering all summer as I’ve pondered how to jump back in to homeschooling come the end of August! My daughter simply loves to be a part of everything. I’ve got to find a workable solution. Since I love busy boxes and busy bags (for on the go), I am so excited to put some together for learning our ABCs right here at home.

My ABC Matching Game Clothes Line is based on the Clothes Line Busy Bag I found at Money Saving Mom. While my preschooler readily recognizes the uppercase letters, the lowercase letters are not as familiar. I decided to adapt the Clothes Line Busy Bag into an early literacy letter recognition activity.

Frog Hopping Measurement Activity

When I first mentioned to Strawberry that I wanted to  do an activity for each letter of the alphabet, she immediately wanted to do frogs for the letter F. What could be more fun than making her small plastic frogs hop? I added in her garage sale find (a small measuring tape) and added a learning element to her frog hopping activity.
We measured how far the frogs hopped in a simple book-inspired measurement activity.

They discuss how the characters look like the items they are describing. Despite our lack of snow in Chicagoland this season,we made our own snow and practiced writing in the snow at our kitchen table, making English letters rather than Chinese characters as they did in the picture book.

Small Eraser Sort with Tweezers Fine Motor Activity

“You can’t erase pen!” my daughter said as I drew five small circles on the paper and poured the small erasers out on the table. What could we possibly be up to! She loved the mystery.
I made this activity into a tweezer fine motor activity. Strawberry was delighted to find her actual task was an eraser sort challenge: Could she sort the small erasers into the correct circle using only the alligator tweezers? My preschooler got good fine motor skills practice as she used tweezers to count and sort small erasers.

Beads and Pipe Cleaner Play

Beads and Pipe Cleaners Play Time | Line upon Line Learning blog
One of the go to activities my daughter has enjoyed lately is beads and pipe cleaners. Everywhere we go, I try to remember to bring out bead box! She and other children her age enjoy putting the beads on pipe cleaner to make “bracelets” and “necklaces.” I also found a simple strainer for her to put the pipe cleaners through. Fine Motor Skills Learning with Sticker Books

One thing my daughter loves to do is play with stickers and play princess. A great book we have allows her to do both together. Using The Sticker Dolly Dressing Princesses book, she can practice her fine motor skills by manipulating stickers and she can practice “dressing” by putting the stickers on the princesses in the book.
Playing with stickers is great fine motor skills practice!
