It’s very late on Thursday, but I did want to get this up for you today, a Teaching with Technology post for the homeschool teacher!
Although today’s featured site is not one used in front of students, it does provide assistance for the homeschool parent (me!) in preparing lessons, planning for the future, and getting commiseration on the difficult days.
The Well-Trained Mind Community provides a forum for homeschoolers using The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home (Third Edition), a book describing a classical method of teaching your children. (I will post more about this book another day.)
But homeschoolers of all kinds are welcome to join in the forum discussions. There are forums to discuss general homeschooling issues and get advice. There is a forum to discuss best teaching methods and curricula, and there is even a forum to buy and sell curricula!
This forum was one of the first I found when I began homeschooling, and it one I turn to when I’m looking for advice and feedback in my lesson planning. Creating a profile on The Well-Trained Mind Forum is free to all.
Have you written on your blog this week about some technology that you use in your teaching and/or planning?
- It could be any website, app, video, youtube channel, or audio file that helps you in preparing lessons or in your teaching.
- It can be about technology in the classroom or homeschool.
Link up below so we can find your post! I also ask that you include a link back to my blog so others can find the linky and get ideas. Feel free to include the button if you desire.

Hey there! I found you via BYB!
I’m also a long time member at the Hive. It’s a wonderful support, both in academics, and sometimes even more importantly, socially. Homeschooling can be so isolating at times, and being able to talk w/other moms who are in the trenches of hsing is a wonderful blessing!
Domestic Imp, yep, Well-Trained Mind is great!
I love technology…such a big help. We use Typing Instructor, Khan Academy and some Zane Education. Stopping by from BYB.
Marya, Sounds great! I find we use technology all the time. I have not used Khan Academy yet; I should check it out.
We use technology so much in our homeschool. One of my favorite sites is a virtual co-op, where my son can watch science lectures that go along with his apologia books.
I’ve visited the Well Trained Mind boards occasionally in the past, but it’s been a while. I should probably visit again.
TaMara, I love the idea of a virtual class! We’ll have to try that sometime, maybe when my son is a little older.
This sounds like a great site thank you so much for sharing. We don’t really home school at this point. We do it over the summer tho. I haven’t heard about this site before it looks great thanks for sharing
Tamara Wilson, it is a wonderful support community for homeschoolers!
