I like to read. You may notice that I’e been writing up my reviews of books I read recently. Last week, I discovered, was Buy Your Friend a Book week. Book reviewing blogs across cyberspace gave away books like crazy.
I live far away from everyone who reads this blog, so I can’t really send you my recently read books without paying an arm and a leg. (Maybe I will someday when we’re back in the USA.) However, since we are all in cyberspace, I can easily send you an email gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.
Therefore, to encourage further reading around the globe, and to be nice to my friends and family who read my long-winded blog entries, I’m giving away a $20 Barnes and Noble gift certificate to one person, randomly selected, who comments on this post.
In your comment, tell me one of these things:
- Why you deserve a $20 book certificate
- What book you want to read next (not what you have to read) and why you want to read it
Answer both questions in two separate comments and you’ll be entered twice. It’s that simple. And, I suspect, you’ll have great chances of winning.
I just liked the idea of sharing books.
Enter your comments by the end of the day Friday, April 11 (USA time). I’ll randomly select the winner by April 15 and contact you by email. (Your gift certificate will be emailed to you.)
P.S. If I get spam comments, I will delete them.
I deserve a new book because then I would read a new book. As it is, I pick up interesting, highly recommended books at the library with the intention of reading it and it sits under my bed until I remember that it is overdue. If I had my own book, I wouldn’t have to pay an overdue fee and I would still get to read it after putting it off for a while.
(Can you tell I need to broaden my horizons from diaper changing and making p-jelly sandwiches?)
Right now the books under my bed are President Hinckley’s biography (because he was a remarkable man) and “The Kite Runner” because I’ve heard good things. I think I only have a week left, but haven’t tried reading either. Either one of those are on my “to read next” list.
PICK ME!
I deserve to win a gift certificate, because our library is very small and has an even smaller selection. Before we moved, I read tons of books that I got from the library. I also used to be in a bookclub. I just need a good book to read! Also, if I win, I will share the book with other people such as my mother-in-law, cousins and sisters. Plus, I never seem to win anything
Pick me!!
I don’t know which book I “want” to read next. I could really use some suggestions. Again, something I miss from bookclub. Right now I just got a book from Liz : the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Liz and Angela both really liked it.
I deserve to win the book certificate because the books that are in mine and my husband’s wish lists aren’t selling at our local bookstores.
The book that I want to read next would be Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. I’ve read her book The Goose Girl and loved it, so I want to continue reading her other books that aren’t in that series. Thanks!
If I won a free book I would go buy a book about signing with little kids. I gave one to my sister and I only got to flip through it before wrapping it for Christmas. I wish I had gotten one for myself too!
I really don’t want to deprive any of my darling daughters or nieces of a well-deserved book. The last one I read today was “Vernacular Biblical Epics and the Production of Anglo-Saxon Cultural Exegesis.” And I just put in an inter-library loan request for an article called “Alcuin the Exegete: The Evidence of the Quaestiones in Genesim.” You decide who is needy! If I win, you’ll have to give my book to someone who has time to read better stuff. I have to turn in the final draft of my dissertaion on Aug. 8. Then I’m going to read Harry Potter, The Work and the Glory, and all the other good stuff that has been accumulating around here while I’ve been in grad school–most of your life. Mom
Ah Man! My comment just got deleted and now I have to write it all over again. Oh well. My fault I guess.
I deserve a new book because with three kids, if I don’t get a book break once a day I go a little crazy. And a crazy Mommy is no good. I want to read Eat, Pray, Love next which I’ve been meaning to read anyway and is our bookclub book for next month. I also really want The Book Thief since two of the people I “tagged” were reading it.
Ack! My comment says April 12 at 8 am! But it’s April 11 at 6pm here! I guess I missed the deadline. Darn the round world!

I meant for it to end Friday night USA time because I know you’re all there. That means there is still a few hours left… It’s already Saturday for me.

I’d say of those two books under your bed, go for the biography of President Hinckley. The Kite Runner is one book I refused to finish. I know a lot recommended it, so I bought it. However, I found one particular scene very disturbing–so I stopped reading and tossed it. That’s just me though. As for the signing book: I love it! I keep forgetting to use signs. I’m trying to remember to sign Mommy, Daddy, Baby, Milk, and Bath these days.
