Incipe, parve puer, risu cognoscere matrem.
Begin, baby boy, to recognize your mother with a smile.
—-Virgil, Eclogues: Book 4, Line 60
I went shopping without the family on Saturday. Shortly after I came home, I went to change Paul’s diaper. As I put him on the change table, he looked up at me and smiled! It was delightful.
There is chance it was still a reflexive smile and he didn’t recognize me or intend to smile. But it was delightful all the same. I look forward to more!
The smile is impressive, but the Virgil really blows me away!
Just some light reading of mine. No, really, someone gave me a book of quotes about motherhood. I really liked that one from Virgil….
And you’re responding to email at 5:44 am?
The webpage time didn’t update with Daylight Savings Time (which was last Sunday here in Australia). It was really 6:44 a.m. And Paul tends to awake at 5 a.m. and not want to go back to sleep until 8 or 9 a.m., although with Daylight Savings Time, it’s closer to 6 lately. But 5:44 a.m. wouldn’t be that unusual….
