Hemming Paul’s First Suit

This morning as my husband was leaving for work, I told him that I planned on hemming the pants of Paul’s new suit today.

“Uh oh,” he said.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well, do you know how to hem pants?” he asked.

I told him I could figure it out. I mean, these are infant-sized cuffs! How hard could it be?

It took me an hour and a half. And I don’t think it looks very good. I’m just not very good. I guess that’s why kids start small–I learn on an infant-sized cuff. By the time I get to a toddler-sized cuff, I’m better. That’s a nice thought, but the problem is, I’m not sure I improved. That’s because, to be honest, I really didn’t know what I was doing. My husband was right. I really don’t know how to hem pants. Oh well.

Next time I really should just go to the kiosk at the mall–they hem pants while you wait for just $12. And then I wouldn’t have “ruined” Paul’s nice new suit. I just couldn’t bring myself to ask them to hem such small pants. How silly would I look?

I hope no one thinks Paul looks silly for having a hem that looks amateur.

Does it really matter when he’ll probably outgrow it in two months?

By the way, do you have any idea how hard it is to find a suit or even plain black pants for an infant? They’re very hard to find. But we really wanted him to look sharp. And it is such a cute suit! The pants even have pockets. Does an infant really need two pockets?

Here’s his suit. I still need to take in the vest at the shoulder (it’s too big as well) but I’m scared to mess with it. Especially after my hemming job.

We’ll try to get pictures with the kid in the suit tomorrow. He’s asleep now. I’m just afraid he’s going to spit up over it before the blessing time on Sunday! I wanted it new for the blessing!

Weeks 2 and 3

Here are some pictures of me from the past two weeks.

Week 2

I slept a lot this week. Here are some pictures to prove it!

Week 3

Here are more pictures of me. Do I look older?

Week 3 with Cowboy Joe

Here I am with Cowboy Joe. He is my friend.

Do I look older than I was in the pictures posted last week?

Paul’s First Week

Paul had a lot of firsts this week. Last Sunday, he breathed for the first time. He also cried for the first time. In the past week, Paul also learned to eat really well and to mess his pants! He is a natural sleeper. Sometimes we have to wake him up to remind him to eat. Other times (when night comes), he likes to stay awake and fuss for attention. No sleeping then!

Dad stayed home from work all last week. Father and son had a great time together. Dad had to go back to work yesterday, but that just means Mom gets Paul all to herself!

Overall, he’s a very good boy. We are so glad to have him in our family.

Here are some pictures from the first week of his life.

Cowboy Joe Has All the Fun!

I haven’t been born yet, so Mommy’s practicing being a Mommy with Cowboy Joe. They are having lots of fun. I want to have fun too! I guess I should come soon….

Paul’s Nursery

We’ve finally put it together! We’ve got our nursery furniture, all except the glider rocking chair, which hopefully we’ll be able to buy in the next two weeks. Now Paul has a place to sleep! We are so excited to meet him in just one month!

Australia: July 2007 Photos

We found some time to see our new home last month. I’m really not a photographer, but I’m having a fun time learning how my camera works. Here are some galleries of my pictures. They really are more snap shots than real “photographs” but I had fun, and that’s the key.

Downtown Melbourne during an early Saturday morning walk.

A day trip to St. Kilda, just outside Melbourne. I desperately wanted to see the ocean and the beach. It was a gray “wintery” day and I have found that I prefer most of these pictures in black and white to match the feeling of the day.

We visited the Dandenongs on two Saturdays. The first was rainy and misty. The second was bright and sunny. I enjoy the greens of the forest but I also enjoy the subtlety of black and white.
