As I circle around, peeling off the thin layer of brown carpet ugliness, the tangy green flesh shows through, taunting me with its juicy shimmer. I finish and put down the vegetable peeler: the kiwi fruit sits before me in its nakedness.I get out a knife and set the fruit on the cutting board. One quick cut reveals the juicy insides, the black seeds radiating out from the pure white center. “No early tastes!” I tell myself, as I hurry to slice the fruit. Soon semi-circles of green, with miniscule black spots, fill a small bowl. I sit down at the table. I place the first piece in my mouth.
I see a dark blue ocean before me: I sit on a tropical beach. Exotic greenness dances on my tongue as the flesh swims: cool, refreshing goodness.
I love an afternoon snack.
